The Mighty Nein's Opening Sequence Selected the Wrong Popular RPG Show Song

This latest animated series, the most recent animated series from the beloved role-playing group, revealed a new introductory sequence. It features our favorite cast of misfits, misfits, and rogues fighting hard and making their mark, while also hinting at several agonizing personal histories for key figures including Liam O'Brien's wizard Caleb, and another actor's warlock orc, Fjord.

All in all, the intro looks stunning. But I couldn't help feeling that an element was missing in the song choice.

This sequence uses "Welcome to Wildemount", an exceptional song created by producer and singer the talented musician. It's a track originating from the soundtrack album of the same name, the second release put out by Critical Role Productions LLC's music division Scanlan Shorthalt Music. It's a great nostalgic choice, and I suspect that devotees of the sequel series will love its inclusion.

Personally, The series' intro fails to capture the excitement and energy that accompanied the second campaign's actual-play adventure. "Your Turn to Roll", written by singer-songwriter Jason Charles Miller, was an instant classic for me when it was initially unveiled in that year, and it improved further when cast member Sam Riegel added lyrics to the tune for the animated Campaign 2 opening in the later year.

Including singing from Ashley Johnson, Laura Bailey, a co-star, as well as the writer, the song was catchy and fun. Back then, I hadn't seen the second campaign at that point, but it was so infectious that I still saved it on my phone. It's a song that excites you before you dive into an installment of fantasy hijinks.

The show's intro with "Welcome to Wildemount" fails to hit the right notes in my opinion. It's a grand piece of music, but based on my understanding of the group, I can't help but feel that its mood is somewhat mismatched.

Of course, the creators has stated that the series will have some surprises and variations from the actual-play campaign. A tonal change for its opening appears as among these.

The Mighty Nein will be available to watch on Prime Video from Nov. 19. For those eager until then, or want a head start to get to know the personas of Critical Role's Campaign 2, the actual play are accessible on the audio platform and the video site.
