Chiefs Acknowledge Alleged Abuse Claims Involving Wide Receiver the Athlete

The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement Wednesday night stating they are aware of domestic violence allegations circulated in social media posts by a former girlfriend of player Rashee Rice and were in communication with the NFL.

The team omitted the name of the player specifically in their statement and stated they would have “no further comment at this time”.

Allegations Shared on Instagram

The woman, who likewise did not name the athlete by name, shared a series of photos on Instagram that seemed to depict signs of physical abuse. Jones stated the individual in question was the parent of her kids, and reports indicate she has kids with Rice, whom the Chiefs drafted in the second round.

Police Reports Currently Unavailable

No police reports were on file in the Kansas City suburb where the incident is said to have occurred.

Player's Prior Off-Field Troubles

The receiver missed the first six games of this NFL campaign following an league-mandated ban for his involvement in instigating a multi-vehicle accident on a Dallas highway that resulted in several individuals hurt. He was sentenced a month of incarceration and probationary supervision after pleading guilty to serious offenses.

Statistically, he finished the season with 53 catches for 571 yards and five touchdowns as the Kansas City finished 6-11 and missed the playoffs for the first time in a ten-year span.
